Training Workshop
This intensive two day workshop is taught by Mary Langlois, Licensed Midwife, ICCE, CD DONA. The workshop curriculum was developed by Penny Simkin, PT and adapted by ADOBE and constitutes one step towards certification through Doulas of North America (DONA International, Inc.).
Doula Training Workshops usually consist of 6 -15 participants, which is ideal for individual attention, idea sharing, and group participation. The Workshop is designed to help participants become expert labor support providers, and utilizes literature, videos, slides and role play to build knowledge and practical skills.

- The potential psychological impact of the birth experience on families.
- The role of the Doula prenatally, during labor & delivery, and postpartum.
- Helping families cope with challenges in pregnancy, labor and postpartum.
- Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Doulas as determined by DONA International, Inc.

Prerequisites for The Doula Training Workshop:
This Workshop is designed for Doulas, Labor assistants, childbirth educators, midwives, nurses and anyone interested in working with childbearing families.
Participants should have knowledge regarding the following childbirth topics:
- Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding.
- Definitions of medical terms regarding labor.
- Common medical procedures and tests used during normal birth, their risks and benefits.
- Administration and effects of pain medications.
- Cesarean indications and procedures.
- Normal newborn appearance and procedures.
- Basic relaxation techniques, breathing patterns and other comfort measures for labor.
